‘Stamp Out Hunger’ on Saturday
That plastic bag your letter carrier dropped off this week isn’t for easy disposal of your junk mail. The National Association of Letter Carriers annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive is Saturday, and the bag is to be filled with donated food and left by your mailbox to be picked up. A Mazda Millenia sedan and a Ford Explorer SUV collided at Murphy Avenue, and the Explorer then struck a pole. Police were investigating and said one of the vehicles failed to yield, but had not yet determined which was at fault.

Commissioners reject cell tower lease agreement
Troup County Commissioners on Tuesday didn’t approve a new deal for a cell tower lease on Roanoke Road. County Manager Tod Tentler said the new lease would give the county $82,500 for a 99-year lease on the tower. Currently, the tower pays out about $500 per month on a contract Tentler believed was a total 30 years.
