Pitching leads the way for Troup KATHLEEN - Troup baseball coach Craig Garner wasn’t sure what role pitcher Jacob Ozley would play during Tuesday’s state-playoff doubleheader against Veterans.
Garner knew Ozley was going to pitch, he just didn’t know if he’d do it as a starter, or a relief pitcher.
After consulting with Ozley, Garner decided to use the left-hander out of the bullpen, and that decision paid big-time dividends.
Ozley ended up pitching five innings in the two...

Troup pitching standout is well-rested Jacob Ozley has had an extraordinary season for the Troup Tigers. Through the regular season and two playoff series, the left-handed Ozley has a 6-2 record and a microscopic earned run average of 1.04. Yet through four playoff games, Ozley has only pitched four innings. Garrett McClurg and Jarred Adams have been Troup’s two starting pitchers in the playoffs, and Ozley has been the first guy out of the bullpen. If Troup had gone to a Game 3...
Tigers look to take another step The Troup Tigers don’t shy away from championship talk, and head coach Craig Garner has no problem with that.
The Tigers aren’t overlooking anyone in the state playoffs, but the players believe they have what it takes to win it all, and they won’t hesitate to say it.
“On our best days, I honestly think we’re unstoppable,” Troup senior catcher Cody Doughman said. “We can make it to the state championship. I really think so.”
Garner said he e...

Season ends for Cavaliers It was another successful season for the Callaway Cavaliers, but as far as head coach Dusty Hubbard is concerned, it ended way too soon.
The Cavaliers finished with a stellar 23-9 record, they were second in their region, and they won a playoff series.
Yet the Cavaliers fell short of the goal Hubbard said everyone is striving for, a state championship.
“One team is going to meet that goal,” Hubbard said. “It’s hard to get. You have to be lu...
