School board may transfer Cannon Street to city

WP receives more land for river park

The City of West Point now owns 124 more acres along the Chattahoochee River that was donated by the Trust for Public Land (TPL) earlier this year.In previous years, TPL had donated land to the city to use for West Point River Park. On Friday, 101 acres of land immediately north of the park and a conservation easement over another adjacent 23 acres for the protection of its natural resources was turned over to the city from TPL.

Woman struck by lightning

A 30 year woman is back home this morning, after indirectly being struck by lightning at a residence in the 300 block of Maley Road.According to the Troup County Sheriffs Office, it happened around 7 p.m. Monday. Deputies say the woman was standing in a doorway during a fast moving thunderstorm, when lightning hit her yard, indirectly striking her.The sheriffs office said the woman was then taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
