Sheriff: Boy drowns in apparent accident

A 1-year-old child died Sunday after drowning at an access park on West Point Lake south of LaGrange.The child, whose name is not being released, was found by his mother unresponsive in shallow water at Long Cane Park shortly before 12:30 p.m.Authorities arrives just three minutes after receiving the 911 call and immediately began performing CPR and other life-saving measures. The boy was transported to West Georgia Health hospital and was pronounced dead.Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff told the Daily News the mother left the child unattended for only moments. She was at the park with other children and family friends, he said.
