St. Mark’s looks back at 150 years in LaGrange

Natives of LaGrange — and some new comers — know St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on North Greenwood Street as the church “with the big cross in front of it.” It’s true, that cross is big. The 14-foot, seven-ton monument has cast its shadow on church goers since its dedication in 1963.But the history of St. Mark’s dates back much further, to a time when the parish was founded in 1864, in what was still the Confederate States of America during the war between the states. To commemorate the church’s past, present and future, the congregation is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

Man dies in lawn mowing accident

A lawn mowing accident claimed the life of a LaGrange man earlier today.LaGrange Police say Kenneth Pearson, 50, died after a riding lawn mower flipped over into a ravine.
