Troup and LaGrange are among the 10 teams that will participate in the Tiger Duals at Troup High today.

The teams will be divided into two five-team pools, with the top teams from each pool meeting for the championship.

LaGrange is in the same pool as Henry County, which ran away with the Callaway Invitational last week.

“Henry is head and shoulders above everybody else. They’re dang good,” LaGrange head coach Scooter Weathers said. “We’d be happy to finish second (in our pool).”

The other teams in La-Grange’s pool are Morgan County, Stone Mountain and McIntosh.

In Troup’s pool are North Oconee, Smiths Station, Kell and a house team composed of extra wrestlers from the other teams.

LaGrange is coming off an impressive performance in the Red Devil Duals at Bowdon High.

The Grangers went 4-0 in the tournament, and they’ve dropped just one dual match all season.

“We had our whole lineup except for about two guys,” Weathers said. “We saw some good things. Overall, we wrestled really, really well. The guys fought hard, and they’re looking forward to (today).”

Hunter Williams, Donte Gilbert, Braden Duke Matt Pauley each went 4-0 for the Grangers, while Justin Phillips was 3-0.

Pete Haralson, Dillon Cripes, Austin Taylor, John Parker, Cody Rayburn, Michael Lee, Nick Kinder, Nathan Kinder and Ivan Dowell each won three matches.

n LAGRANGE ACADEMY: It was all about defense for LaGrange Academy’s basketball teams on Monday on the second day of a tournament at Tatnall Square Academy in Macon.

While the Warriors gave up a paltry 30 points in its 40-30 victory over Southland Academy, the Lady Warriors were even better in a 34-28 win over Southland.

In Monday’s boys’ game, the Warriors got 12 points apiece from Jordan Ring and Hunter Jones, with Ring bringing in 12 rebounds as well.

The Warriors were up 21-18 at the half, and the dominated the third period to take a 36-24 lead.

It was, LaGrange Academy head coach Matt Dalrymple said, the most complete defensive performance of the season.

“Today was probably the first day where everybody on the court was giving the intensity we need,” Dalrymple said. “They were diving on the floor, doing whatever we needed to do. And we also rebounded well today.”

Both LaGrange Academy teams improved to 1-1 in the tournament, and they each have won more tournament game today.

“We really got a lot of confidence from this win,” Dalrymple said. “Hopefully we can end it on a positive note (today).”
