The victim, Khalilah Andrews, 28, of North Cary Street, was five months’ pregnant with a girl who didn’t register a pulse after being airlifted to Columbus and was delivered as a stillbirth at 8:50 a.m., Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook said.
Andrews pulled out of a private driveway in front of another vehicle traveling north on Barnard Avenue about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday.
The other driver, Antione Dorsey, 17, of Hogansville Road, told police he tried to stop, but slammed into the front driver’s side of Andrews’ Nissan Sentra. Dorsey was treated for head injuries at West Georgia Medical Center and released.
Andrews’ injuries included multiple pelvic fractures, broken bones and a fractured lower leg, police said.
Police said she was fully conscious and complaining of extreme abdominal pain before airlifted to Columbus Medical Center, where she died at 1:30 p.m. of blunt force trauma.
The incident marks the first fatal accident in 2009 in LaGrange, which recorded three traffic deaths last year.
