The LaGrange Grangers had proven they could win region games at home, now they've shown they can win them on the road as well.

The Grangers broke open a close game in the second half to beat the Columbus Blue Devils 51-38 Tuesday night.

The Grangers (10-5 overall) moved to 3-1 in Region 2-AAA, and they improved to 1-1 in region road games after dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Kendrick last week.

"Columbus really slowed the pace, and we had to play really good defense to get this win," LaGrange head coach Mike Pauley said.

The Grangers were up 16-14 at the half, and they were ahead 31-26 through three periods.

LaGrange finally pulled away from Columbus in the fourth period.

Qua Huzzie led the Grangers with 15 points, while Randazzero Chaney and Qua Hardy each hit some key baskets late.

In the girls' game, LaGrange fell to Columbus 65-41.

Terryuana Godwin paced the Lady Grangers (5-7, 1-3 in region play) with 22 points.

Columbus charged to a 19-8 lead through the first quarter, and that lead grew to 42-15 by the half.

LaGrange's teams host Callaway today, with the girls' game tipping at 3 p.m. and the boys' game to follow.

n CALLAWAY: The Lady Cavaliers got 17 points from Erin Anderson and 15 points from Tersheor Tigner in a 51-47 Region 5-AA victory over Pike County.

The Lady Cavs moved to 5-2 in the region.

Pike County scored 20 points in the final quarter, but Callaway matched that total to maintain the four-point lead.

Pike got as close as two points in the fourth period, but Callaway never lost the lead.

"We didn't play defense (in the fourth period), but we made some free throws and some baskets," Callaway head coach Albert Gilliam said.

Callaway’s boys’ team also won. For a recap of the game, see Sunday’s edition of the LaGrange Daily News.
