BREAKING NEWS: Reward, charges increased in Ribitz shooting

Troup County Crime Stoppers has increased the award amount for information related to the shooting death of a clerk at Ribitz Bait and Tackle.

Omprakash Patel, 61, was shot in the abdomen as two men robbed Ribitz about 7 p.m. Dec. 23. He died more than two weeks later and Troup County Sheriff’s officials now are investigating the incident as a murder.

Anyone providing information that leads to the arrest could receive a $2,500 reward.

After the shooting, Patel was taken to Columbus Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery and later was transferred to Columbus Specialty Hospital.

Troup County sheriff’s officials have developed a firm time line of the robbery. There also have been some tips called into Crime Stoppers.
