The Grangers, who now own a three game winning streak, beat cross-town rival Callaway 63-53, although both teams had their moments.
Four lead changes in the third quarter made for an exciting start to the second half, but the Grangers (11-5, 3-1 Region 2-AA) grinded out the win.
LaGrange head coach Mike Pauley thought the game ultimately came down to his team's depth.
“I think (Callaway) got tired. That's my assessment,” Pauley said. “But they're a really strong team. Callaway has our respect and we think we beat a pretty good team.”
The Cavaliers (9-4) surged ahead early and led by five at the end of the first quarter, but LaGrange went on a 13-0 run to end the half and put Callaway in a three-point deficit to begin the third.
A wild third quarter built to a dominant Granger fourth, as LaGrange outscored the Cavaliers 27-18 in the final eight minutes of play.
Four Grangers scored in double figures. Martez Johnson led LaGrange with 14 points, followed by Qua Hardy and Jamius Gunsby with 13 and Royal Thomas with 11.
Johnson's stellar play was what Pauley expected out of the junior the entire season.
“(Johnson) has been sitting back, and then all of a sudden this was his game,” Pauley said. “I want him t enjoy it, and then see if the next game it'll come to him again.”
For Callaway, junior Quantavius Leslie led the team with 17 points, followed by D.J. Rutledge with 15 and Terrance Jackson with six.
