The Region 2-AAA boys’ standings are compact at the top.
While Shaw is holding steady at 4-1 with a 16-1 overall record – its lone loss was to LaGrange – the Grangers and Carver are within striking distance at 3-1.
LaGrange takes on Carver Wednesday for the right to be tied for first.
Shaw’s next region game will be Friday against 2-2 Kendrick.
Troup has fallen to second to last at 1-3, although all games have been competitive.
The Tigers are tops in the region in defense, allowing an average of just 53 points per game.
The Lady Tigers could be the most surprising team in the region.
After struggling to a three-win season a year ago, Troup (10-4 overall) is now tied with Kendrick for the region lead at 4-1.
Like the boys, the Lady Tigers are leading the region in points allowed, giving up just 48 per game.
Columbus is 1-3 in the region.
The Lady Grangers (5-8 overall), at 1-3 in the region, are hoping to begin making up ground with Wednesday’s game against Carver.
The Region 5-AA boys could have the wildest finish of all. Four teams are still in the hunt for the regular-season championship, with three currently tied for first place.
Heard County, which suffered its first loss of the season last week to Callaway, leads the pack at 6-1, but Jordan and Manchester are not far behind at 4-1. The Cavaliers could be tied for the lead soon, as they are 3-2 with a key game against Manchester Friday.
The girls’ standings are muddled near the top, but thus far no team has been able to knock off Macon County. The Bulldogs are 7-0 in Region 5-AA, although they are 9-7 overall.
Manchester and Jordan are a notch below at 5-1, and the Lady Cavaliers are still in it at 5-2.
Callaway has won four of its past five region matchups.
In GISA Region 4-A, the Dawson Street Wildcats are sitting pretty at 4-1, although they trail Covenant Academy, which is 5-0.
The two teams will square off tonight at the Lafayette Christian School gymnasium.
Lafayette Christian has some work to do at 0-4 in region play and 2-8 overall.
The girls’ team is also trailing at 0-3 in GISA Region 4-A and 2-5 overall. Monroe Academy is leading at 3-0 in region action.
In GISA Region 4-AA, Christian Heritage leads the boys at 7-0 and 17-2 overall. Arlington Christian isn’t far away at 8-1, but the rest of the region has major ground to cover.
LaGrange Academy is tied for fifth at 4-3 and 11-5 overall.
The Lady Warriors have to play in one of the toughest regions in GISA, but they’re still holding strong.
LaGrange Academy is tied for third at 5-2 in GISA Region 4-AA, and top-ranked Arlington Christian is 17-0 on the year. At second place is Christian Heritage at 6-1 and 13-3 overall.
LaGrange Academy is tied for third place with Harvester Christian.
