11 arrested in Effingham Co. gambling raids

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (AP) — Several convenience stores in Effingham County were the site of a major gambling raid on Thursday.
Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said deputies seized dozens of gambling machines and an estimated $500,000 from seven stores.
McDuffie said 11 people were arrested. All face felony gambling charges.
He said officers working undercover for six months observed the video gaming machines paying out cash prizes to patrons, which is illegal.
Sheriff’s officials said the investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
