There was an error in the Pubnlic Safety report of Tuesday’s edition. Marilyn Lo Loyd, 24, of Lanett, Ala., was the victim of a felony theft in which $1,117 worth of electronic items was stolen from an automobile in West Point. Loyd was not charged with a a crime.

We regret the error.

Accident

A LaGrange woman was airlifted to Columbus Regional Medical Center on Thursday afternoon for injuries suffered in an accident on Buck Murphy Road after allegedly passing a stopped school bus. The driver, Amanda Reid, 32, reportedly lost control of her vehicle while passing the bus and struck a pine tree in a yard on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the school bus said she had stopped to let children out at a residence when Reid’s vehicle passed her. Reid was released from the hospital Thursday.

Shoplifting

Police accused a drunken man of striking an unattended vehicle in the parking lot of Wal-Mart at 803 New Franklin Road on Thursday afternoon and attempting steal golf balls from the store. A woman talking on a cell phone in her car had noticed the man’s white0colored vehicle park extremely close to her. After entering the store and returning to her vehicle, the woman observed a new dent on the rear of her car with white paint markings and that the other vehicle had moved to a nearby parking space. Police were notified and found the man in the sporting goods section of the store with the golf balls bulging from under his pants and shirt.

He was charged with DUI, striking an unattended vehicle and shoplifting.

Theft

A thief stole a Long Cane Middle School student’s $300 cell phone from the school’s gymnasium at 326 Long Cane Road.
