The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Project recently presented volunteer Ken Hacka an inscribed pen in appreciation of his contributions to the new Lakeside Trail. The trail begins at R. Shaefer Heard Day Use Area and is open to hikers, mountain bikers and nature enthusiasts. Hacka and other members of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association volunteered their time and energy in developing the scenic trail. The trail is 6.5 miles long and is planned to be lengthened an additional two miles. Hacka is flanked by Park Ranger Samantha Walker, left, and Supervisory Park Ranger David Barr.
