Suspects arrested in Coweta County

A 29-year-old LaGrange man is dead and two others were taken to area trauma centers after a shooting Friday at Super 8, 29 Patillo Road.
LaGrange police said Brian Truitt, of Turner Street was one of three men taken to West Georgia Health System. where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. Marced Cotton, 34 of East 12th Street in West Point and Kelvin Lovett, 22 of Borton Street in LaGrange, were taken first to the LaGrange hospital, then airlifted to hospitals in Columbus and Atlanta, where their conditions were unavailable Saturday night.
Police said they were called to Room 216 of the motel at 9 p.m. All three victims were in the room with gunshot wounds and detectives learned that two men had left in an SUV.
The two suspects, Dewayne Stevens, 25, of Riverdale, and Malachi Phillips, 28, of Lithonia, were stopped by Coweta County deputies and the Georgia State Patrol at exit 47 on Interstate 85 shortly after the incident and returned to LaGrange. The two men are charged with murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
A motive has not been determined. Detectives still were investigating the incident Saturday and were looking for a witness to the crime.
