One day after an emotional victory over rival LaGrange, the Troup High Lady Tigers were unable to mount much of a challenge against Northside.

Trailing 31-21 at the half, the Lady Tigers were outscored 20-5 in the third period to fall behind 52-27.

The Lady Tigers played better in the fourth period, but they were unable to make a dent in the sizeable deficit and Northside won 68-43.

“They just got frustrated, and it just went downhill,” Troup head coach Caroline Sellers said.

Josi Saunders scored 19 points in the losing effort, while Pascale West and Dina Saunders scored eight and seven points, respectively.

“I think maybe we were exhausted from that high (of beating LaGrange),” Sellers said. “We just have some things we need to work on, and that’s what we’ll do. We’ll get ready for Columbus.”

Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers (11-6 overall) are still in good shape in Region 2-AAA with a 4-3 record heading into Tuesday’s game at Columbus High.

The Lady Tigers have yet to lose two games in a row this season.

In the boys’ game, it was the same old story for the Tigers, who continue to play their region foes tough, only to come up short in the end.

The Tigers trailed 43-41 through three periods, but they managed just six points in the fourth period on the way to a 56-47 loss.

The Tigers (5-12 overall) dropped to 1-6 in the region, but they haven’t lost a region game by more than 10 points.

After managing just one point through the first six minutes of the fourth period, Marcus Williams knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:55 left to get the Tigers within four.

Troup didn’t score again, though, until Eric Bridges made a meaningless layup with moments left in the game.

Bridges and Kelvin Lyles each scored 13 points, while Williams scored 11.

Troup visits Columbus High on Tuesday.
