Blair Shimandle, teacher and coach at Troup High School, was part of a hair-cutting program recently at the school.

Shimandle had a softball teammate and friend at Georgia Tech who developed breast cancer. One of the side effects of cancer treatment is the loss of hair.

Shimandle decided one way to help her friend and others who are going through the treatments would be to donate her long hair to an organization that makes and provides human hair wigs, such as Pantene Beautiful Lengths or Locks of Love. It was the fourth time Shimandle has participated in the charitable mission.

Students Adrianna Rhode and Christian Jones gave Shimandle her new haircut under the supervision of Christy Franks from LaGrange Barbershop.

Shimandle is already planning on the next time she donates hair and asked if anyone interested in joining her to contact her at shimandlebc@troup.org.
