Strong high pressure building from the west will combine with a weak surface front moving across the area this afternoon to create windy conditions. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are likely today and tonight. Motorists were urged to use extra caution.
Cold temperatures are forecast, and the wind chill will make it feel even worse.
The mercury is expected to dip to the lower 20s tonight, and into the teens Wednesday and Thursday. Highs are forecast in the upper 30s Wednesday and lower 40s Thursday.
Friday’s high should reach the upper 50s, with a low in the lower 20s.
Elsewhere, winter kept its grip on much of the East early today, with New England and the Great Lakes socked by snow.
More snow was in store from New England to the mid-Atlantic. Total accumulations between 2 to 4 inches were expected in the Northeast.
Behind this system, another cold front will move over the Ohio River Valley and into the Southeast. While not expected to kick up any precipitation, it will drop temperatures.
