The potential for severe weather prompted officials to sound weather sirens in Troup County on Tuesday evening, but no storms were reported.

The county was under a tornado warning from about 6 to 6:30 p.m. as a thunderstorm raked along the Troup-Harris county line.

‘The National Weather Service in Peachtree City spotted a cloud formation that could produce a tornado over in Alabama and coming along the county line, which is right where we are,’ said West Point Police Chief David Kerr. ‘They decided to issue a warning.’

There was no tornado in West Point, but ‘we did get a heck of a rain,’ Kerr said.
