BALTIMORE (AP) — Georgia’s top judge has withdrawn her candidacy for the job of dean at the University of Maryland School of Law.
Leah Ward Sears was named last month as one of five finalists for the job. Sears is the outgoing chief justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia. The court’s public information officer, Jane Hansen, says Sears was honored to be considered for the Maryland job but has decided to pursue other opportunities.
Hansen says Sears made her decision Monday and canceled a visit to the university scheduled for Feb. 23.
Sears announced in October that she would step down from the Supreme Court at the end of her second two-year term as chief justice.
