It must hurt, because the dog tries to bite anyone who comes near her ears.
LaGrange police and the LaGrange Animal Shelter are looking for the owner of a 3-month-old female red Preso Carnario, a breed similar to a pit bull, but they don’t want reunification.
The owner could be charged with animal cruelty and animal mutilation after the dog was found wandering Hogansville Road wearing a pink leash and collar, her ears forever altered.
Animal Control officer Chris Bussey said a local veterinarian believes the dog’s ears were clipped with scissors, causing permanent damage. The dog now is on antibiotics and is being transferred to a rescue group in Newnan for long-term veterinary care.
Dogs’ ears often are clipped for appearance, to make them stand up, but if the practice is done at home my amateurs, the procedure can go horribly wrong. That’s what happened to this dog, shelter staff said.
Bussey found the dog in the area of Hogansville Road and Peachtree Court on Monday.
“I’ve gone door to door, but no one knows the owner,” he said. “I hope someone recognizes the dog.”
Anyone who may know the dog’s owner may call the shelter at 706-298-3606.
