The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st. Mr. Davis will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
Mr. Davis died Friday, February 27, 2009, at Hospice LaGrange.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Ricks Davis of Roanoke; three sons, Ricky O. & Gail Davis of Kennesaw, Ga., Jeff K. and Betty Jean Davis of Glenville, NC, Scot & Lisa Davis of Roanoke; one sister, Mary Davis Jackson of Oxford; five grandchildren, Laura, Corbin, Stephen, Callie and Ben Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randolph County Gideons, Roanoke Gideons and Deacons of Big Springs Baptist Church.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Davis was born April 5, 1931, son of Emory Otis and Fannie Missouri Della Camp Davis. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. He was a District Director of Environmental Health with the State of Georgia. Mr. Davis served as a Deacon for Big Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons, the Randolph County Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama Treasure Forest, past-president of Randolph County AARP, Randolph County Health Authority, Life Alumni Auburn University, and a former member of the Kiwanis, Lion and Moose Clubs.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lila Davis Barber and a brother, Bruce Davis.
