As I have previously written, I believe Mitt Romney will win in November because
of the terrible economy. However, Romney should be leading President Obama by twenty points. What’s wrong with Romney?
For starters, Mitt Romney is one of the most inconsistent politicians I have ever seen. To say he is a flip-flopper is an understatement.
This past week he has been talking about what he has in common with Obama’s health care program. I thought he was vehemently against the president’s health plan.
When it comes to deficit spending, taxes, gay rights, and abortion, he has been all over the board. At times I honestly don’t think he truly knows what he believes.
The Republicans, in my opinion, chose the wrong candidate. They should have put Congressman Paul Ryan at the top of the ticket. At least Ryan has some consistency to his candidacy.
One thing I liked so much about Ronald Regan was his consistency. I never had any doubts about Reagan’s core values. The question is does Romney have political convictions he is willing to fight for?
Another Romney problem is that Americans in general cannot, on a personal level, relate to a man who makes $30 million a year. When Romney portrays himself as just one of the guys, he has absolutely no credibility.
As I have stated, I like rich people. During my thirty-three years in the United Methodist ministry, some of my best members were very wealthy. In fact, I got along better with them than I did with the middle class. I have no problem whatever with Romney’s money. I applaud the fact that he has prospered monetarily.
Again, however, he does not connect with the middle class. My cousin who lives in Atlanta is voting against Romney for that reason. He is not voting for Obama. He is voting against Romney.
If the Republicans cannot beat Obama, a weak candidate, then how will they beat a strong candidate like Hillary Clinton in 2016? Again, Romney should win in a landslide over Obama.
Romney’s religion will hurt him with some evangelicals. Being an evangelical Christian, I believe we are saved by the grace of God. Works will not save us. Mormons believe in works righteousness- pure and simple. No true evangelical can accept this.

The reverend will obviously vote for Romney but really hates the guy yet relates to him as well since he feels more comfortable with the super upper class. Too many contradictions.
I'm also bothered by the assertion that no true evangelical "can accept" Mormons' emphasis on good works. Good Works Faith and Grace Faith are not mutually exclusive. Yes, St. Paul tells us that we are saved by faith, not by works. But James tells a different story - that faith without works is dead. And if you truly believe in salvation by grace, then in accepting that gift from God one should feel led to share their joy through good works. If no evangelicals can accept Romney's Mormonism, then I don't see how in the world he will win in a landslide, because a LOT of rabid Republicans come from just such an evangelical base.
Your rambling endorsement (?) of Romney is, to say the least, humorous, although, I’m sure you that wasn’t your intention. but saying ” he’s inconsistent, he does not connect with the middle class,
a flip-flopper, is all over the board ,the wrong candidate with questionable political convictions “ and saying” he can‘t be related to on a personal level,” all terms you use, NOT against his opponent,(President Obama) but as a glowing(?) description of your own candidate(Romney)! Now, sorry, but you’ll have to admit it, that’s one heck of endorsement! (for reelecting President Obama).
You should give that voice inside your head that says “please, don’t write that” more serious consideration. I’m sure when you wrote ” the very wealthy ”were your “best members” in your past ministry. Saying “ In fact, I got along better with them (the very wealthy) than I did with the middle class.”! I try not to be a hypocrite, but it’s clear to me what common attribute ($$) comprised your” best members” in your mind, Reverend. The middle class members of your past ministry wouldn’t be too pleased if they read that confession.
Tell your cousin in Atlanta there isn’t a place on the ballot where you can vote “against” anyone. So, if he carries through with his logic, he’ll be voting for Obama. But, what the heck, I‘ve got some cousins who are voting for him too.
