The closing of part of Vernon Street for construction of a pedestrian bridge at LaGrange College has been delayed.

The weekend closings were to begin Saturday, but the schedule has been delayed a week, said John Cleaveland, project manager for Langford Construction, the general contractor of the project.

The portion of Vernon Street between Park Avenue and the intersection with Broad Street will be closed from sunrise March 14 to sunset March 15, and from sunrise to sunset March 22, March 28, March 29, April 4 and, if needed, April 5.

Eastbound traffic headed toward LaGrange will be detoured left onto Broad Street – normally a no-left-turn intersection – then returned to Vernon Street at any number of cross streets past the campus. The reverse is true for westbound traffic, which will be rerouted one block north, to Broad Street and then back to Vernon Street.

Forrest Avenue will remain open and will be accessible via Broad Street, but will be closed off to Vernon Street.

The bridge will link the college’s new library with parking across Vernon Street.
