The Pine Mountain Club Chalets Resort, the Rotary clubs of Harris County and LaGrange held a welcoming event Tuesday night for the District 6900 Rotary Gov. Cheryl Greenway.

Rotary District governors are elected for a one year term running from the July 1, through the end of June. During her term, Greenway is responsible for setting forth some of the goals for the individual clubs in the district. She is also responsible for being the official liaison between the local Rotary clubs and Rotary International. During the year, Greenway, who is a member of the Roswell Rotary Club, will personally visit all of the 68 Rotary clubs in her district and attend many of the clubs’ planned Rotary events. The governor also appoints assistant governors that are then assigned to the individual Rotary clubs. It is considered a honor when a club is given an opportunity to host the district governor.

Fifty-eight individuals were in attendance last night to welcome Greenway. Helping to make the governor feel at home were Assistant Governors Court Davis and Robbie Green, along with Harris County Club President Bob Patterson and LaGrange Club President Charis Acree. Each Rotary club also had additional members and their spouses present for the event.

Today, Greenway will attend both the Harris County and the LaGrange Rotary clubs’ meetings. She will start her day off at the Harris County Rotary’s breakfast meeting at Callaway Gardens and then she will go on to LaGrange Rotary’s luncheon meeting at the Highland Country Club. During her visits, Greenway will be addressing the clubs’ members and will also be attending the clubs’ board of directors’ meetings.

Tuesday night’s social was designed to give Greenway an opportunity to meet some of the officers and members of the clubs before her official visits the following day. The social was planned as a pot luck affair and the informal gathering offered everyone a great variety of food, drink, and lively conversations.

Greenway was pleased to be honored at last night’s affair and stated that the visiting of the different clubs were really quite enjoyable.

“Honestly, the most interesting experiences I have as governor are when I visit the different clubs. Every club is unique, every club is different, but every club is welcoming. Just getting to meet the people, see what all of the clubs do, it is just incredible,” said Greenway.

What she would like to be remembered for long after her year of serving as Governor of District 6900, is “fellowship”.

“The word I use is fellowship or the family of Rotary. I’m wanting to try to bring clubs together, and just remind everyone that we are all on the same team. No one is alone, and there is so much that we can accomplish when we work together, so it is fellowship,” said Greenway.

The Rotary Club of LaGrange was originally charted in 1923, this coming year the club will be celebrating its 90th anniversary. Thirteen years ago the LaGrange club sponsored the Harris County Club, so the members of the Harris Club refer to LaGrange as its “mother club”. The members from both clubs enjoy a friendly and collegial relationship.
