A man fleeing a traffic check point early Saturday morning led area law enforcement on a chase around the southwestern area of LaGrange that exceeded 90 mph.

According to a sheriff’s report, a Ford Taurus pulled away from a traffic check point at Old West Point Road and Pegasus Parkway as an officer told the driver to stop. The Taurus sped down Old West Point Road and deputies pursued the Taurus down Old West Point Road, Cannonville Road, Gabbettville Road, West Point Road, back to Pegasus Parkway, Orchard Hill Road, Gordon Commercial Drive, Vernon Road, Old Airport Road, into the Lee’s Crossing Apartments complex at 119 Old Airport Road, Lukken Industrial Drive and back to West Point Road before a Georgia State Patrol trooper stopped the vehicle with a PIT maneuver near Upper Glass Bridge Road.

LaGrange police tried twice to stop the vehicle with stop sticks during the chase, but the driver swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid them. A report said the vehicle repeatedly drove into the oncoming lane and vehicles had to avoid it.

The driver was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, failure to obey a traffic control officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. The driver’s blood-alcohol content wasn’t high enough to be charged with DUI, a report said. He also had an active warrant in LaGrange for failure to appear in municipal court.

Woman beaten by juvenile

A 62-year-old woman was hit several times by a juvenile while walking in her apartment complex, police said.

The 13-year-old started following the woman at Sun Ridge apartments at 1235 Hogansville Road, where they both reside, Saturday, police said, and began cussing at her, then hitting her. The juvenile had complaints of misdemeanor battery and criminal trespass taken against her and was released to her parents.

Man takes money back after failing drug test

A man who failed a drug test at Absolute Solutions at 301 Broom St. apparently decided he wanted his money back, so took it from a clerk at the business, according to a report.

The clerk said the man paid $30 to take the drug test, but once he was told he failed, became angry and demanded his money back. The clerk said the services were rendered and she couldn’t give him back the money, so he reached across the desk, snatched the cash and fled.

The business had a photocopy of the suspect’s identification from the drug test, which they gave to police.

Dog found with wire in neck

A dog found on Habersham Drive was suffering injuries from wire that apparently had been wrapped around the animal’s neck “a long time,” according to a report.

Flesh on the dog’s neck had rotted away down to the muscle, an officer said. The officer removed the wire with cutters and the dog was taken to the LaGrange Animal Shelter.

Police were seeking the owner.

Theft

An employee at Walmart said someone stole a 7-inch Android Impression tablet valued at $250 that was on display at a counter.

Damage

•A resident of the 3500 block of Highway 54 near Hogansville said someone had taken down rafters she recently had replaced and left them on the ground, leaving the written note “LOL” on her door.

•A resident of the 600 block of Park Avenue said some dogs caused about $500 damage to his truck while chasing a cat by tearing out the trailer harness and scratching the paint.
