The Troup Tigers were held to three hits Saturday afternoon as visiting Walton walked away with a 5-1 victory.
The Tigers tried to put something together in the bottom of the seventh, with Rus Morman doubling and Brannon Smith following with an RBI single, but the rally went no further as the next three Troup batters were set down.
Troup did get solid pitching performances from Cole Sims, Jackson Oliver and Eric Escobedo, who did a nice job against a Walton team expected to compete for a state title in Class AAAAA.
Of those pitchers, only Sims pitched in a varsity game last season, and he only had three innings.
“I felt like our pitching was pretty good, but honestly, we didn’t hit the ball very good again. Three hits isn’t going to win many games,” Troup coach Craig Garner said. “Give some credit to their pitching staff. They did a good job of making pitches and mixing it up and hitting their spots.”
Walton got a solo home run from Spencer Kieboom early, and it added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Troup is off until Thursday when it plays McIntosh.
The Tigers are 2-3 overall.
