The Rev. Clay Snyder wanted Sunday’s homecoming and 100th anniversary celebration of Dunson Baptist Church to be a transforming experience.
“I hope no one leaves as they came in,” he told a packed-in crowd. “I hope everyone is touched by the spirit of God and renewed.”
The centennial of the church was an occasion to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Dr. Harris Malcolm, a state missionary from the Georgia Baptist Convention who also played the father of actor Kirk Cameron’s character in the movie “Fireproof,” pointed out that no one present would be around for the next 100-year celebration.
“Those who have any chance are in the nursery,” he said.
Malcolm was there to give Snyder, on behalf of the church, a plaque from the Georgia and Southern Baptist conventions commemorating the 100 years of activity. Marianne McCullough, wife of Troup Baptist Association director Aaron McCullough, also congratulated the church on behalf of the TBA on its 100-year anniversary.
“You don’t hear about that very much,” McCullough said.
The service was rounded out by music from Tim Karr, Lance Money, John Key, David Reese and Hispanic group Freedom Sound.
