Mrs. Geneve Brooks Gates passed away Tuesday at the Golden Living Center in Lanett.

Mrs. Gates, a native of Five Points, Chambers County, Alabama, was born March 12, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Bobbie and Syrenthia Wright Brooks. She attended the Unity Model School and joined the Rehope Baptist Church early in her life. She later resided in Anniston where she retired from Spiedel Jewelry Store. She was a very active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a missionary worker, Sunday School teacher and member of the nurses guild.

Survivors include a devoted sister, Linda Graves, LaGrange; nieces: Ruby Williams, Maxine Sutton, Regina Fincher, Janice Echols, Vanestia Huzzie, Patricia Graves, Alice Faye Simpson, all of LaGrange; niece, Iris Collier, Griffin, GA; nephews, Bobby Towles, LaGrange; Percy Sutton, Killen, TX; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lee Gates; brothers: Lewis Brooks, Robie Brooks; sisters: Glennis Brooks, Helen Towles, Earlene Clarity, Louvenia Sutton; and niece, Betty Jean Graves Ward Davis.

The Graveside Service will be Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00AM in Southview Cemetery. Dr. Clarence Sams and Rev. Johnnie Freeman will officiate.

The family will be at the home of her sister, Linda Graves at 301 Niles Street.
