The “real” season begins now for the Callaway Cavaliers.
After falling to Landmark Christian 3-0 on Monday, the Cavaliers find themselves with a break-even .500 record.
The games that count are still to come, though.
Callaway opens Region 5-AA play on Friday at Jordan.
“It’s been good to play these (non-region games),” Callaway coach Matt Leonard said. “It’s given us a chance to tool around with our lineup.”
On Monday, Leonard said it was a matter of Landmark converting its chances.
“We didn’t hav a lot of scoring chances, and they didn’t either,” Leonard said. “But they finished and we didn’t.”
Leonard said defensive players Ryan Whitmire, Colby Dremann and Tad Duraski played well on Monday.
In the girls’ game, everything was going along nicely until the final 20 minutes of the second half.
The Lady Cavs held a 1-0 lead, but Landmark scored four goals in about 10 minutes to to surge ahead.
Landmark won 4-1.
