A woman accused her ex-boyfriend of beating her and pointing a gun at her in the parking lot of Splash ‘N’ Go car wash at 206 Hill St.

Police gave this account: The man followed the woman in his vehicle along Hill Street on Wednesday afternoon. The victim stopped her car in the parking lot to see what was wrong. The man got out of his vehicle and accused her of cheating on him while they were together. He then punched her several times, then grabbed a pistol from his car, pointed it at her face and said he was going to kill her. The man returned to his vehicle and struck the side of her car with it while driving off.

No arrest was made.

I hope that the LaGrange Daily News will consider doing a follow-up full article on this incident. It is disturbing to note that while this was clearly an incident of domestic violence with frightening amounts of violence and threats made, the LaGrange police felt no need to make an arrest. I can not imagine what possible explanation they would have for neglecting to keep this domestic violence victim safe and hold her batterer accountable.

Domestic violence is a community problem, not a private matter. This violent, frightening incident occurred in the middle of a parking lot with a gun involved. Clearly, both the domestic violence victim and those nearby were in immediate danger. The response of the LaGrange police is baffling.

I urge you to do a follow-up story and discuss the dynamics of domestic violence and its impact on all of us in our communities.

As a former resident of LaGrange, Georgia, I am disturbed and heartbroken that the police did so little to keep this victim safe, protect LaGrange residents, and hold the batterer accountable.

If you choose to do a follow-up story, please consider providing the 1-800-33-HAVEN hotline number so that other domestic violence survivors can reach out for help.

Thank you.
