It is the vagaries of weather in March.
One weekend it can be 70 degrees and sunny, and the next weekend it’ll be cold and wet.
Last weekend was nice, and in typical March fashion, this one was miserable.
That was a bad thing for the teams competing in the Granger Invitational tennis tournament hosted by LaGrange High.
Friday was fine, with the teams getting in a full slate of matches.
Saturday was a different story, though, with only one match reaching its completion.
In the Division II girls final, Westover won the crown.
The Division II boys final between LaGrange and Harris County wasn’t played.
The Division I semifinals and finals were to be played Saturday, but those matches were washed away as well.
LaGrange head coach Kenny Moore said the semifinal teams will try to make up the matches on their own time.
“We’re going to try to finish it by getting everybody together at their convenience,” Moore said.
It helps that most of the remaining teams are from the metro Atlanta area.
On the girls’ side, Brookstone of Columbus is already in the finals against either South Gwinnett or Greater Atlanta Christian.
On the boys’ side, Milton will play McIntosh, and Wheeler will face Norcross in the semifinals.
Both LaGrange teams went 1-1 on Friday, and they were each set to play one more match on Saturday.
Moore was pleased with how both of the LaGrange teams in Division I played.
Division I was where the most competitive teams competed. Division II was created for teams that don’t play at as high a level.
A lot of teams, including LaGrange, had their junior varsity players competing in Division II.
“I was real proud of them. It was real good for the kids,” Moore said. “They enjoy playing tough competition. They tend to play a little better when we play somebody really good. I hope the kids enjoyed it.”
