Mrs. Emily Beam, 77, of LaGrange passed away Monday at her home.

Mrs. Beam was born June 27, 1935, in Minter, Alabama, daughter of the late Charles Leon and Frances Isabelle Bender Gilmore. She was a special education Teacher’s Assistant at McGinnis School in Montgomery, Alabama, and traveled and assisted the students in the Special Olympics Program. Mrs. Beam was an active member of East Vernon Baptist Church, a member of Troup County Senior Center and also was a Senior Companion.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Tami and Michael Meacham of LaGrange, Charlotte Urrutia of Norfolk, VA, and son, Charles Beam of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Shelley and Jim Richards of Oak Grove, MO; Alexandra Urrutia, Danielle Urrutia, both of Norfolk, VA; Kyle Beam of Lubbuck, TX, and Tyler Beam of Arlington, TX; great-grandchildren, Colby Alvis, Adam and Dalton Richards, all of Oak Grove, MO, Carter Urrutia and Christian Urrutia, both of Norfolk, VA; brothers and sister-in-law, Edd Gilmore of Dothan, AL, and Bob and Audrey Gilmore of Monroeville, AL; aunt, Jewel Welch of Wetumpka, AL; and sister-in-law, Maxine Gilmore of Montgomery, AL. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Leon (Bubba) Gilmore.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at East Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Chris King officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
