William F. Holle, Jr.
Mr. William Frederick Holle, Jr., 94, of LaGrange died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at West Georgia Health System.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Doug DeCelle and Dr. William Conine officiating. A private interment will be held in Shadowlawn Cemetery prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends today at his home.
Mr. Holle was born May 31, 1914 in LaGrange. He was the son of the late William Frederick Holle, Sr. and the late Hattie Wooten Holle. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Holle O’Kelly.
Mr. Holle was a 1932 graduate of LaGrange High School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Holle served three years in the U.S. Army stationed in the Panama Canal. After military service, he attended and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. Mr. Holle was employed by Citizens and Southern National Bank for 26 years and later worked for the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of LaGrange where he served as President from 1962 until his retirement in 1985.
During his corporate career in banking, Mr. Holle served numerous civic organizations to include: City of LaGrange Board of Education, LaGrange-Troup County Hospital Board of Trustees, inaugural Treasurer of Camp Viola, Highland Country Club Board of Governors, President of LaGrange Lions Club, Secretary-Treasurer of Georgia Lions Club and the LaGrange College President’s Committee. In addition, Mr. Holle served in various capacities at the United Way of LaGrange, LaGrange Chamber of Commerce and Troup County Heart Association.
Mr. Holle was a member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder. He was also instrumental in multiple fund raising projects to improve the church facility and program of work. His life was marked by unselfish love of his family and church, devotion to his many friends, his influential leadership to the banking community and his great commitment to the civic contribution of LaGrange.
Mr. Holle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Page Sargent Holle of LaGrange, one daughter Ellen Holle Butts and her husband Jay of LaGrange; three sons, Bill Holle and his wife Cathy, Lake Harding, AL, John Holle and his wife Anita and Henry Holle and his wife Lynne, all of LaGrange; ten grandchildren, John Butts, Page Butts, Emily Butts, Erick Holle, Anna Holle Knight, Michael Holle, Brian Holle, Keleigh Holle, Tom Holle and David Holle; and four great-grandchildren, Pearson Knight, Davis Knight, Lila Knight and Libby Page Holle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, 120 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA 30240 or the charitable organization of your choice in memory of Mr. Holle.
