West Point City Councilwoman Judy Wilkinson takes one of the first rides down the snow tubing slide sponsored by Kia Motors at Saturday’s West Point Winter Carnival. The carnival drew big crowds to downtown West Point Saturday night.

Saturday’s West Point Winter Carnival drew hundreds of people to the West Point Depot. Local vendors setup inside the depot and outside sold items and food, and trees decorated by local businesses and groups are setup along the road in front of depot, where they will stay for the season.

Christmas came early in West Point with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Winter Carnival.

After city council members lit up the Christmas tree at the depot, it was time for ‘snow.’ The artificial snow rained down from the depot for the last hour of the carnival.

Participants at the carnival could ride the gyroscopes, while younger attendees had inflatable play areas and games.

West Point’s Christmas tree was switched on by City Council members during carnival festivities. Council members and children led a group Christmas caroling after lighting up the tree.

A friend of mine sent me an email telling me about the West Point Festival. I rode down to take a look and what a crowd! The streets were filled with festival goers who were obviously enjoying the festivities: food, rides, crafts, and the Depot. the snow machine was delightful to watch, and even a politician or two make the rounds to greet possible voters. The event was fabulous and I am still amazed by the turnout. Thank you, West Point, for a great beginning to the Christmas season.
