On Saturday, it was the Granger Invitational tennis tournament that was rained out.
Two days later, it was the Granger Invitational golf tournament’s turn to feel the wrath of Mother Nature.
Eleven teams were set to participate in the tournament at Highland Country Club Monday, but a steady rain that didn’t cease during the day caused the postponement of the tournament.
The tournament has been re-scheduled for March 26.
“There are two teams that can’t reschedule,” LaGrange golf coach David Pleasants said. “Right now, nine of the 11 are playing, so we’re happy with that.”
The Lady Granger Invitational, weather permitting, will be held Monday at Highland Country Club.
Working around the weather has become a common theme for the area’s sports teams.
LaGrange High’s baseball team was supposed to host Pacelli on Monday, but that game was postponed.
LaGrange Academy had a game postponed on Saturday, and Callaway and Troup have also had games pushed back because of rain.
Over the weekend, the LaGrange College baseball team had two home games cancelled because of rain, and the LaGrange College softball team had four games in Mississippi cancelled.
A few weeks ago, a golf tournament LaGrange College was hosting at Callaway Gardens was called off as well, although that one was because of an incoming snow storm.
While games have been postponed, practice routines have also been altered, with the local baseball teams having to take it into the batting cage of the gym.
Welcome to the unpredictable weather that is common this time of year.
“That’s just part of it,” Pleasants said. “You can’t control the weather in March.”
On the baseball diamond, LaGrange has tried to play its game with Pacelli three times, but each time poor weather has gotten in the way.
They’ll try again on April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
“We don’t seem destined to play,” LaGrange head coach Donnie Branch said.
The Grangers (3-4) were hoping to get on the field in an effort to add to their three-game winning streak.
“We need to play, but it’s a pretty easy call not to play right now,” Branch said. “Our field is completely under water.”
At LaGrange College, the baseball team was supposed to play Mount Union on Saturday and Wittenburg on Sunday.
Both games were cancelled, and they won’t be made up.
The Panthers hope to get in a doubleheader against Arcadia today beginning at 4 p.m., while Callaway is scheduled to play at Lamar County today.
Callaway head coach Dusty Hubbard said the status of the game is up in the air.
“Their coach said it takes their field about 24 hours (after it rains) to play,” Hubbard said.
Hubbard said Callaway was supposed to host a junior varsity game Wednesday, but that is also in doubt.
“It’s as wet as I’ve ever seen it,” Hubbard said of the field.
