Shoppers were out – late Thursday and early Friday – to snag Black Friday deals on the day after Thanksgiving.

“I just like to be out in the hustle and bustle,” said Kay Huckleberry, one of dozens of shoppers to get a pair of boots at Belk during a special sale.

Anise Morrison, saleswoman at Belk, said customers had cleared the shelves for the boot sale and other items were selling briskly.

“We opened at 12:01 a.m. and we had a line wrapped around the building,” she said. “The store was full.”

Sharon Cavell had a shopping cart full of overflowing bags.

“Actually I haven’t been here that long,” she said. “I’m mostly getting things for my grandchildren.”

Sales and deals were being offered around LaGrange on Friday for Black Friday, from sales at downtown shops to specials even at local car dealerships. Mike Patton Auto was offering a special on oil changes – and shuttle service to stores while the vehicle was serviced.

Walmart had the biggest crowds with people parking at nearby Burger King and Farmer’s Furniture late Thursday night. The store was prepped Thursday afternoon with caution tape outlining sales areas.

Janet Gilbert opened her shop, Serendipity, at LaGrange Mall at midnight.

“We were busy,” when the store opened, she said. “I expect it to pick back up later.”

The store had 25 percent off purchases all day to lure customers in.

Big Lots on Commerce Avenue opened at 6 a.m. Friday.

“We had about 45 people waiting out front and everyone was pleasant,” said Sharon Crane, manager. “We were open all day (on Thanksgiving) so we’ve done well.”
