The Dawson Street Christian School Wildcats put a scare into homestanding Frederica Academy Friday night, but in the end, they were unable to pull off a win that would have earned them a shot at a state championship.

The Wildcats held an 8-7 lead at the half in a game that was played on St. Simons Island, but the Knights dominated the second half to take a 39-16 victory.

The loss put an end to a special season for the Wildcats (7-6), who overcame a 1-5 start to the season to reach the semifinals of the GISA Class A state playoffs.

The game also put an end to an extraordinary season for running back Shaquille Tiggs, who had another huge night to finish with more than 2,000 yards this year.

Tiggs ran for 175 yards on 20 carries, and he closed the season with 2,081 yards on 218 attempts with 27 touchdowns, both school records.

After a scoreless first quarter on Friday, the Kinghts went up 7-0 with a touchdown in the second quarter.

Later in the quarter, the Knights were driving again when Tiggs forced a fumble, and he scooped the ball up and raced 75 yards for the touchdown.

Durrell Vaughn then ran in the two-point conversion attempt, giving the Wildcats the 8-7 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Knights scored on the first play from scrimmage after the Wildcats fumbled the kickoff, and they went up 15-8 after the two-point conversion.

Things got worse for the Wildcats when they again lost a fumble on the kickoff, and the Knights quickly scored again to go up 22-8.

After the Knights went up 39-8, the Wildcats added a late touchdown on a 20-yard scoring run by Tiggs, and Vaughn completed the two-point conversion pass to A.J. Ferrell.
