Thanks to the participants of the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority’s (DLDA) ornament contest, Lafayette Square is smartly decorated for this Christmas season.

All of the participants were given the same sized plywood circle along with a set of rules that they had to follow. The plywood then had to be decorated to be transformed into a two-sided Christmas ornament. The entries were then placed and judged for their creativity and overall appearance.

The DLDA offered two prizes for this year’s contest. The first place prize was a $200 Downtown LaGrange gift certificate and the honorable mention was awarded a $100 gift certificate.

First prize went to the Ethel Kight Magnet School’s Art Club and honorable mention went to LaGrange Academy’s Middle School Art Students.

Other Entrants in the contest include ornaments designed by Tina Gaddy, a local resident and self taught artist, which features a Peace, Love and Joy theme , Hollis Hand Elementary School’s art club which is a red ornament depicting a Christmas tree, Gardner Newman Middle School which is a glamorous white, silver and gold striped ornament, LaGrange Academy’s High School art students which depicts Santa Claus, Long Cane Middle School’s elf and reindeer entry and LaGrange High School’s National Art Honor Society members’ painting of Santa and his flying reindeer.

The ornaments are displayed in Lafayette Square throughout the month of December.
