“The turnout has been great,” said Luis Sample, manager of human re-sources for the company. “It’s been very balanced with about the same number of people each day. We had nearly 1,500 people show up in total, if not more. We were particularly pleased about Monday’s turnout because of all the rain. The applicants have all been very respectful and orderly.”
The three-day fair ended Wednesday. T-Mobile will hire up to 111 people for its national return center at 210 Wiley Road and began Wednesday inviting successful applicants for interviews ranging from today until Tuesday.
“We will do around 200 interviews in total,” Sample said. “The interviews will likely be an all-day event each day, lasting from 8 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m.”
Hundreds of applicants kicked off the fair Monday morning by lining up in pouring rain.
Each day, applicants watched a short orientation video about their potential working environments and filled out “minimum requirement” questions. Those who passed that phase were invited back later that day to take a 30-minute computer test.
Jobs applied for included distribution supervisor, database developer, parts coordinator, production coordinator, distribution leader, utility clerk, technical operator, inventory specialist, inventory clerk, quality assurance inspector, forklift operator, kitting clerk, distribution specialist, receiving processor and maintenance technician.
Wages are expected to range from $9.23 to $14.81 an hour, depending on the position. Benefits packages can include child-care subsidies, tuition assistance and more.
With the current local unemployment rate at 12 percent, T-Mobile is proud to provide new jobs for the area, Sample said. The number of applicants from Troup County was unavailable.
“We are just delighted to able to contribute new positions to the community of LaGrange,” Sample said. “Hopefully, this will provide an immediate boost.”
