A three-car wreck at Vernon Street and Roanoke Road injured three people about 7:30 this morning after witnesses said an SUV ran a red light and struck two other vehicles.

Witnesses at the scene said that a red Ford Escape ran over a sign as it exited the parking lot of Piggly Wiggly on Roanoke Road and sped eastbound, passing two cars stopped at the red light at Vernon Street. The SUV slammed almost head-on into a southbound Toyota Camry that was turning right from Vernon Street onto Roanoke, before hitting a northbound Chevrolet Trailblazer that was attempting to turn left onto Roanoke Road.

The Escape went airborne and flipped. The drivers of the Camry and Trailblazer were taken to West Georgia Medical Center for their injuries. The driver of the Escape was expected to be flown to a regional hospital, police said. Their conditions and names were unavailable as of this report.
