It was a good news, bad news kind of night for the LaGrange High wrestling team.

The good news concerned the LaGrange junior-varsity wrestlers, who won 15 of their 18 matches during Tuesday’s matches.

When it was time for the varsity team to take the mat, though, things didn’t go to plan, with the Grangers falling to Starr’s Mill 51-30 in their only match of the day.

Columbus High’s team was supposed to participate, but it had to pull out because of a school activity.

“It just goes to show you, you have to come ready to go every day,” LaGrange head coach Scooter Weathers said. “We had no technique with the varsity tonight. It’s like they were in another world. I don’t know what it was.”

Weathers did say he was pleased with the effort of the junior-varsity guys.

“That was terrific,” Weathers said. “That’s something you can look at tonight and feel real positive about something. With the varsity, there wasn’t a whole lot to smile about tonight.”

LaGrange’s wins came from Garrett Godby, Tyler Brumfield, Turner Duke, Corey Morgan and Devonte Williams.

LaGrange will return to the mat this weekend for a tournament at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn.
