Wrong folks will get jobs

Dear Editor:

President Obama has a stated goal of creating or saving 3.5 million jobs by 2010. If four of his proposals are enacted, I think he might reach the jobs goal, just not in jobs for U.S. citizens.

The shovel-ready infrastructure projects do not require “e-verify” to establish that the workers on the projects are legal residents, much less U.S. citizens.

The Card Check proposal, to remove the secret ballot in a worker’s decision to form a union, insures higher unionization and the resulting higher labor costs. With elevated production costs, U.S. jobs will go overseas.

The proposal to raise taxes on the income and capital gains of individuals in 2011 will be factored into near term investment decisions and slow job creation in the small business community, the engine for growth in the US economy.

The aptly named Cap and Trade energy proposal will tax every consumer in the US in a very regressive way and raise the costs of all U.S. products. The measure will cap U.S. growth and trade U.S. jobs to global competitors. I admit there will be added jobs for the new federal agencies needed to impose these tariffs and to favor politically correct businesses, but these gains will not offset the loss in U.S. productive employment. For the politicians, a benefit of these new federal agencies will be the opportunity for rampant corruption in setting standards and trading sham energy futures.

The proposals in total hurt U.S. consumers and make the U.S. worker significantly less competitive in the global economy. Say No to the Big O!
