Troup County gas prices fall

Troup County motorists are getting an early Christmas present — lower gasoline prices.

Fuel prices nationwide are dipping, and one outlet in West Point has broken the $3 barrier. Prices for regular in Georgia averaged $3.136 today, down from $3.216 a week ago and $3.241 a month ago, according to the gasoline website georgiagasprices.com. Last year this time, the state average was $3.121.

Across the country, regular was selling for an average of $3.24 a gallon today, down from $3.32 a week ago and $3.436 a month ago. One year ago, the average was $3.237.

Pump prices across the nation have steadily declined as demand for gasoline continues to be low and inventories continue to be high, according to AAA.

The Sunlit convenience stores at 2nd Avenue and West 8th Street offered regular for $2.999 a gallon Monday.

In LaGrange, the lowest price was $3.04 for regular at the Kroger grocery store at 203 Commerce Ave. Other outlets has regular for $3.08 and $3.09.

The lowest price in Hogansville was $3.13 a gallon at Love’s Truck Stop at 1624 Bass Cross road and the Shell station at 1945 E. Main St.

Across the state line in Alabama, numerous outlets were selling regular for $2.99.

In Georgia, the lowest price for regular was $2.89 at outlets in the metro Augusta area. Regular cost the most — $3.59 to $3.69 — in areas of metro Atlanta and near Darien.
