Former Troup High standout Tanisha Jackson is getting acclimated to the college game.

Jackson, who led the Lady Tigers to the state quarterfinals last season as a point guard, is playing for the University of West Georgia this season.

The five-foot tall freshman has played sparingly, appearing in three of the team’s 10 games.

Jackson has played a total of 29 minutes, and she has made 4-of-8 field-goal attempts and scored nine points.

Jackson got the most playing time during a 77-36 victory over Morris when she scored five points and played 15 minutes.

Jackson also say significant playing time in a victory over Point University.

Jackson earned her scholarship to Division II West Georgia with a terrific career at Troup High that was capped by a fine senior season when she averaged 13 points and five assists per game.

While Jackson did most of the ball-handling for Troup last season, the person she was often passing the ball to was post player Shamiya Brooks, who is also learning the ropes in the college game.

Brooks, a 6-foot-4 post player, has appeared in two games for Prairie View A&M in Texas.

Brooks has played a total of 18 minutes, and she has made 3-of-6 attempts from the field, and she’s a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.

Brooks has also pulled down nine rebounds, blocked a shot and come up with a steal.

Brooks garnered the interest of college coaches as a dominant post player at Troup.

As a senior, she averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game for a team that went 23-6, won a region title and advanced to the Class AAA quarterfinals.

Prarie View head coach Toyelle Wilson said she has his high expectations for Brooks.

“Brooks will be an immediate asset for our team,” Wilson said. “We needed an inside presence that could change our look offensively and defensively, and she will do that. She has great size, athleticism and blocking ability. She will be solid at Prairie View.”

AUBURN: Pascale West, a 6-foot-8 senior from Troup High, has played in six of the Lady Tigers’ 11 games this season.

West has taken nine shot attempts this season, making four of them, and she’s averaging just over six minutes of playing time a game.

West, who is majoring in apparel merchandising, had her best game of the season against Alabama A&M when she made 3-of-5 shot attempts from the field and scored six points in 14 minutes of playing time.

West is in her fourth season at Auburn, and she’s been a role player during her time at the SEC school.

GEORGIA COLLEGE: Royal Thomas, a junior from LaGrange High, continues to have a solid season for Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.

Thomas, who helped the Grangers make it to the state-championship game in 2011, played sparingly his first two seasons, but the guard has been a major part of the team this season.

Thomas has played in all seven of the team’s games with five starts, and he’s averaging 7.7 points per game, and nine points a game in conference play.

Thomas has been stellar from the field, making better than 60 percent of his shot attempts, and he’s also pulling in four rebounds per game.

ALABAMA A&M: Nick West, a freshman from LaGrange Academy, has played in all nine games for the 3-6 Bulldogs.

West is averaging just over six minutes a game, and he’s struggled a bit finding his shooting touch.

West, a 6-foot-10 forward, has made just 3-of-19 attempts from the field, although he has made all four of his free-throw attempts.

West enjoyed a stellar career at LaGrange Academy, leading the Warriors to multiple trips to the GISA final four.
