Mrs. Elizabeth Truitt Billups, age 92, was born Oct. 13, 1920, in LaGrange, Georgia, to the late Peter and Fannye Truitt Cutwright. Mrs. Billups, affectionately known as “Hon,” was the second daughter of four sublings. She was marreid to the late Joseph Thomas Billups.

Mrs. Billups attended the public schools and later obtained a B.Ed. from Selma University. She was a former teacher of Troup County for several years before relocating to Detroit, Mich., with her husband. She continued her teaching career in Detroit until her retirement in 1995.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Tuskegee, Ala., to live with her remaining sister, Fannye and her husband Richard.

Mrs. Billups was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #2 of LaGrange, Ga., until her health declined. She was instrumental in introducting the Five Point Tea Program to the chapter. She enjoyed church activities, cooking, sewing and traveling.

After the death of her sister, Fannye, and Richard, Elizabeth was moved to Baltimore under the care of her grandchildren, Kymberleighe and William.

Mrs. Billups died on Dec. 6, 2012, in Baltimore.

She leaves to cherish her memories two grandchildren, Mrs. Kimberleighe Murphy Richardson and William Oscar Murphy III, both of Baltimore, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Justice Richardson, Dana Richardson, Tevin Murphy and Ryan Murphy; several cousins, Johnnie Tolbert, Bertha Somerville, Jimmie Dawson, Lonnie Mae Roberts, Wylie Roberts, Dorothy Davis, Kimberly Stephens and Martha Mahone; and several other relatives and friends. She was preceeded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Murphy; three sisters, Amanda Truitt, Hazel Tucker and Fannye Glover; her extended family, Richard H. Glover, Richard Glover II, Richard McGhee and Annie Ogletree.

Funeral services for Mrs. Billups will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Leete Hill U.M.E. Church. The Rev. Lenton Snow will officiate with burial with her family at Eastview Cemetery.

The family will assemble at Leete Hill U.M.E. Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, on hour prior to the funeral service.
