A pair of former Troup Tigers helped the LaGrange College Panthers cap an exceptional home stand on Sunday.
Jeff Tucker went six innings to get the victory, and Jordan Martinec had four hits and made a terrific defensive play to lift LaGrange College to a 21-4 win over Centre College at Cleaveland Field.
The Panthers (15-7) went 8-2 on the 10-game home stand.
Tucker, a senior looking for his first win of the season, pitched six solid innings to improve to 1-1.
Tucker gave up just one earned run and struck out five in his best outing of the season.
Martinec, meanwhile, continued to bash the ball.
The freshman third baseman had four hits and was on base five times, and he improved his batting average to .431, second on the team to Ben Hudson (.451).
Martinec scored four runs Sunday, and he leads the team in that category with 25.
Tucker lowered his earned run average to 4.08, and he got his first win in his fifth start of the season.
The Panthers set a season high with the 21 runs scored, and they had 19 hits off five Centre pitchers.
The Panthers took advantage of eight walks and four errors by the Colonels.
Korey Ison, Craig Mobley and Mike Sanders all drove in three runs each for the Panthers.
Taylor Smith and Derek Duran each pitched a scoreless inning for the Panthers.
The Panthers scored five runs in the first inning to begin the scoring barrage.
Sanders had a two-run single in the inning.
Leading 8-2, the Panthers put the game out of reach in the sixth inning.
They sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs to go up 16-2.
Ben Hudson had a two-run double and Ison capped the inning with a bases-loaded double for the final three runs.
The Panthers closed out their scoring with five runs in the seventh inning.
Martinec and Wes Baxter had run-scoring singles. Luis Perez drove in the last two runs with a single to center.
The Panthers are on the road Monday at Atlanta Christian beginning at 4 p.m.
