From staff reports

Troup County residents were surprised about 8:45 p.m. Sunday when the one-minute emergency sirens were sounded. E-911 said the sirens were set off accidentally.

E-911 supervisor Suzy Noles said this morning the sirens only sound for weather, not other emergencies. Luckily, in Sunday’s case, only the test siren was activated, not the full three-minute warning. There was no severe weather in the area.

Noles said in the case of severe weather, the sirens will be activated for the whole county, not just the part of the county where the storm is expected to hit.

“That way everyone is prepared,” she said.
