A man was arrested Thursday morning after he fled from police.

According to a police report, officers were conducting a concentrated patrol in the area of Niles Street at East Render Street when they observed a black man matching the description of a man wanted for robbery. Officer Jason Lawson exited his approached the man, later identified as Hakim Abdul Williams, 34 of LaGrange, and asked him if he could speak with him. Williams started to walk away down East Render Street and Lawson gave chase and instructed Williams to stop. Williams then ran toward Gallant Street where he fell at a fence and got up and ran toward Belk Street into the woods, the report said.

Officer Curtis Spivey joined the chase and ordered Williams to show his hands. Williams laid face down on the ground, and had one arm underneath his body, and was refused to release it. Lawson then removed Williams’ hand from underneath him and took him into custody, the report said.

After a background check, it was discovered that Williams had an two Troup County warrants for probation violation and a misdemeanor warrant from the Rome Police Department for probation violation.

In this incident, Williams was also charged with resisting arrest and pedestrian in the roadway.
