GREENVILLE — State troopers said a man died in a Meriwether County car accident that left his wife and seven children injured.

Georgia State Patrol officials said Victor Allen Moorer, 30, of Riverdale and his family were northbound on Intestate 85, returning from visiting relatives in Montgomery at the time of the accident early Thursday afternoon. Troopers said Moorer’s 2003 Nissan Xterra left the roadway, overturned in a wooded area and the driver’s side of the car struck a tree.

GSP officials said Moorer was killed and two of his children, ages 11 and 3, were airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. The other children, ages, 10, 9, 7, 5 and a 9-month-old baby, were treated and released. Authorities said Moorer’s wife, whose name was unavailable, was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital and expected to be released.

The wreck snarled northbound traffic south of Hogansville for a few hours. Troup and Coweta counties fire and EMS were among emergency personnel called to the scene Thursday afternoon to assist Meriwether County, Troup 911 officials said.

Georgia State Patrol was investigating the wreck.
